Top 10 albums of 2017, No 09: The Afghan Whigs – In Spades

Here it is people! 2017 is almost out the door and these are our 10 favorite albums of the year:

09. The Afghan whigs – In spades

During the last few years, a lot of 90’s bands have made a comeback. One of the most important of those is the Cincinnati rock band, Afghan Whigs, that embraced R&B and Soul music into their Grunge and Garage base.

In their second post-reunion album, In Spades, The Afghan Whigs once again deliver a captivating album that (like their 2014 Do to the beast) masterfully combines all the elements that made them great to begin with, even though only two members of the original line-up are still in the band (singer/guitar player, Greg Dulli, and bassist John Curley): Soul and R&B influenced rock n’ roll behind Greg Dulli’s ravaged singing on love and sex.

The 10 track album lasts only 36 minutes but is as complete as any other album out there, and, honestly, I find it really hard to pinpoint one of those 10 songs as “the weakest link”… The songs seem to be complimentary to each other, something that makes the album even more interesting especially in a singles era when complete albums seem like a rarity.
